Parov Stelar: Second Date
Under his pseudonym Parov Stelar, Marcus Füreder has been one of the most internationally successful Austrian artists and producers for years. From the studio to the recording studio to the dance floor in the form of art and beats, Parov Stelar unites these spheres into a great whole. The presentation focuses on Parov Stelar's oil paintings on canvas and paper, hand-colored screen prints reminiscent of tour posters and LP covers and reworked stills from the videos Candy Girl and Brass Devil round off the exhibition.
Parov Stelar sees painting as an impulse reaction. In the digital design phase, he leaves a lot to chance. The first montages on the computer lead to the layout or design that he puts on canvas or paper. During the painting process, the artist describes, it happens again and again that a picture turns completely around. As soon as he looks at the picture, he knows that it is complete. For him, painting is the antithesis of music.
“This is really great painting, very authentic. The pictures show his affinity to POP art, for example to the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein or Robert Rauschenberg. From my point of view, they are almost psychograms if you look at his biography. You realize that he struggles with it, with himself as well, that he lives out his fears. The great thing is that he is an artist who has the opportunity to articulate his fears, worries or other events in his biography artistically. For Parov Stelar, music and painting are involved in a parallel creative process. Both fertilize each other and inspire the artist alternately.”
