Banksy
lives and works in England
Banksy is a British street artist whose true identity has remained a secret until now, despite his great fame. Despite the lack of biographical details, it is assumed that he was born around 1974 in Bristol, where he began his career as a graffiti artist. Banksy practices visual cultural and social criticism. In a distinctive style, he uses prefabricated stencils through which so-called stencils are sprayed with paint. His work is largely situational and site-specific and is often complemented by multimedia elements and action art. In October 2013, during Banksy’s Better Out Than In artist residency in New York, a man sold the artist’s paintings for $60 each near Central Park. In 2015, Banksy opened Dismaland Bemusement Park, a temporary art exhibition that parodied amusement parks. At the end of the 36-day project, workers and materials from the park were sent to a refugee camp in Calais to build additional shelters. Banksy lives and works in England.
