Invader
born 1969 in France
He puts his mosaic paintings of characters from the 1970s video game Space Invaders all over the world. Once he completes a work, he calls it Invader and uses maps and books to draw attention to its location. Invader began this type of work in Paris in 1998 and expanded his creation to 31 other French cities, followed by 22 cities throughout Europe. His works can also be seen in the United States, Canada, Asia and Australia.
The mosaics are made of weatherproof tiles that represent the pixels of the first video and computer games. In all, it takes Invader at least a week to complete an installation, including scouting a site, attaching it and mapping it. One of the most noticeable places Invader’s December 31, 1999 work is attached is the D in the Hollywood sign in California. Invader also uses the Rubik’s cube for his works. Since 2000, his works have been shown in galleries around the world, and after the 2010 documentary film about street art Exit Through the Gift Shop, Invader became even better known.
